In a new entry, at Apress, Matt Wade gives an overview of the PHP Framework— Zend. He talks about the issues and changes that he wants to see in it. He starts by saying that he is pleased with the performance of Zend Framework which he is using to recode a large web site. He is impressed with the results; ease of use and also its performance in minimising his development time and giving a cleaner, easier to maintain code.
The first issue that he faced was— he was unable to useZend_Db_Table with some of his tables as he didn’t have a single column primary key. So, he had to resort to either altering the table and adding an autoincrementing primary key or just issuing direct SQL queries. But he preferred to leave his table definition alone and utilize Zend_Db_Table throughout his application rather than a mixture of SQL access methods.
The second issue was that he wasn’t able to set unique lifetimes for different Zend_Cache objects. He says that it’s a serious issue that needs immediate attention. He had to check the filetime on the cache file manually expiring it. He adds it’s an ugly hack that should be ignored.
He says that though he can work with the present model but he will prefer a tighter integration of the model.
