PHP Ranks Fourth in Popularity Contest in May

PHP stands at fourth place in the May 2007 edition of the TIOBE Programming Community Index. PHP’s position has remained the same since last month, and Java continues to hold the top spot. Java recorded an increase of 19.140% in May 2007. PHP has stayed in the same fourth position with a rating of 8.738% over the past year. C has also maintained the same second position since last year. The new last entrant in the list is COBOL with a percentage of 0.627%. COBOL moves five places down from its fifteenth position to the twentieth position in a year’s time.



The TIOBE Programming Community index gives an indication of the popularity of programming languages. The index is updated once a month. The ratings are based on the worldwide availability of skilled engineers, courses and third party vendors.
