PHP Stats for July 2007

Damien Seguey has released the stats for the month, checking for PHP on 11.2 millions servers hosted on 2.4 millions IP were surveyed during July, and 26.1 were used for obtaining the stats. Domains without web sites, unreachable, ISP, shared hosters, or domain parkings were not considered.

Results of the survey are:

  • PHP on Internet: PHP is found on 33,68 % of web sites, stable from June 2007, and the PHP market share is stable.
  • PHP version distribution: PHP 4.4.0 and beyond represent now 64% of all PHP installations.
  • Increasing versions: PHP 4.4.7 is again the popular choice for PHP in July, while PHP 5.2.3 is second, leading of other PHP 5 versions.
  • Retreating versions: PHP 4.4.4 and 4.4.6 are the big losers this month, leaving ground for PHP 4.4.7. PHP 5.1 and 5.0 are in strong retreat, but 4.3 are definitely leaving.
  • PHP major version distribution: The survey represents PHP major version distributions : 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. PHP 5 passed the symbolic line of 20%; now one out of every five web servers use PHP 5. Besides PHP 4, all other major version are negligible.
  • PHP 4/5 middle version distribution: PHP 4.4 growth is pausing again like in May, PHP 5.2 is now above the 10% symbolic mark.
  • PHP 4.3/4 minor version distribution: PHP 4.4.7 is now in a firm second position, poised to take over first position next month.
  • PHP 5 minor distribution: PHP 5.2.3 is going up the chart, but slowly when compared to PHP 4.4.7 going up the version 4 charts, and may not reach the top before PHP 5.2.4 is out.
